Privacy Policy

SnipWise is a browser extension that lets you select part of a webpage and ask AI to explain, summarize, or answer questions about that selected content.

Core privacy promise: only the content you choose is sent for AI processing. When you take a snip, SnipWise sends the selected screenshot area, your prompt or follow-up text, and any pasted images you intentionally attach. SnipWise does not send the full webpage unless you select or paste that content yourself.

Information SnipWise processes

Selected screenshots or cropped screen selections chosen by you.
Follow-up text prompts that you type into SnipWise.
Screenshots or images that you paste into follow-up prompts.
Basic usage information, such as daily or monthly AI prompt counts.
Subscription status from ExtensionPay, such as whether Pro access is active.
Extension settings and preferences needed for SnipWise to work.
A randomly generated installation identifier used for usage limits, abuse prevention, and service reliability.

How screenshots and prompts are used

When you submit a snip or follow-up prompt, SnipWise sends the selected screenshot, pasted images, and prompt text to the SnipWise hosted API. The hosted API sends the necessary content to an AI provider to generate a response.

SnipWise uses this data to answer your request, support follow-up conversation context, enforce free and paid usage limits, prevent abuse, troubleshoot errors, and keep the service reliable.

Preview and redaction controls

Current versions of SnipWise include a pre-send privacy review step. After you select an area, you can review the cropped image before sending it. You can also black out sensitive parts of the selected image before upload. Blackout/redaction is applied locally in your browser before the image is sent to the SnipWise hosted API.

What SnipWise does not intentionally collect

Not collected by default

Full browsing history.
Passwords.
Full-page content unrelated to your selected snip.
Personal files from your computer.

Payment data

Payments are handled by ExtensionPay and Stripe.
SnipWise does not store full credit card numbers.
SnipWise may receive subscription status needed to unlock Pro access.

OpenAI API keys

You do not need to provide your own OpenAI API key. AI requests are handled through the SnipWise hosted API. SnipWise does not expose its hosted AI provider keys to the browser extension.

Service providers

SnipWise may share necessary data with service providers used to operate the product, including Cloudflare for hosted API infrastructure, OpenAI or another AI provider for AI response generation, ExtensionPay for subscription status, and Stripe for payment processing.

Data retention and user control

SnipWise is designed around user-selected, request-based processing. You can cancel before sending a snip, black out sensitive parts before upload, uninstall the extension at any time, manage or cancel subscriptions through the billing portal, and contact support for privacy or account questions.

Security

SnipWise keeps hosted API secrets on the server side. The browser extension communicates with the hosted SnipWise API, but it does not include the hosted AI provider API key in the extension package.
